Challenges of intelligence software versus user expectations

The 8th Intelligence Workshop by PLATH traditionally opened the EW Europe 2017 on the 6th of June in London. Since 2010 the event has been a unique forum for intelligence experts, offering excellent networking opportunities and exclusive insights into COMINT and EW . With about 280 delegates from 34 countries the Intelligence Workshop continues to expand the intelligence community and contributes to a professional exchange at international level.

On the basis of extensive market knowledge PLATH provided an innovative high-quality programme for the full-day event. The 8th Intelligence Workshop was opened by Bruce Wynn, Independent Cyber Consultant and Special Advisor (Cyber) to the City of London Police, who spoke on the topic „Cyber and SIGINT / COMINT / ELINT / EW and C4ISR“.

The exhibition featuring the motto “Cyber and SIGINT / COMINT / ELINT / EW and C4ISR“ was traditionally opened following the Intelligence Workshop. At the booth PLATH Group presented the Intelligence Control and Analysis System (ICAS). ICAS is a collection of software features, which facilitates manual and automatic signal collection as well as analysis and pre-evaluation. It increases the operational tempo in order to keep the initiative and likewise maintain the aim of the intelligence requirement.

During the conference PLATH also made room for a completely new and outstanding approach: Dr. Beate Tomio, Junior Product Manager Software at PLATH, spoke about how to implement task-oriented user guidance into radio reconnaissance software. Due to the obvious challenges of high IT affinity on the one hand, a high amount of data, time pressure and a decreasing number of well trained staff on the other hand, we have to face the growing need of simple user interfaces. Dr. Tomio made very clear that adapting a graphical user interface to the customer use case by putting the user and his specific task in the centre of interest is the key to a contemporary software solution.

The EW Europe 2018 will take place from 5th to 7th of June 2018 in Lausanne, Switzerland. PLATH Group is looking forward to welcome the international intelligence community to the 9th Intelligence Workshop to present once again the latest trends.
